Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department are benefitting from improvements made to our shooting range, thanks to a generous grant from the Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District.
In the spring of 2020, the Grand Junction Police Department applied for and was awarded a grant from MCFMLD in the amount of $150,000. Despite modifications and delays related to the pandemic, the construction portion of the project was successfully completed at the end of 2021. These funds assisted in much needed updates to our 10-lane shooting range, notably enhancing our process of capturing the expended rounds from the range, enabling us to recycle those materials and mitigate contamination to the area. Additionally, we were able to add a five-lane rifle range, which will provide opportunities to train for accuracy at greater distances. Finally, we were able to add a structure referred to as a “shoot house”; this provides a safe, controlled environment for officers to engage in training exercises.
These improvements totaled approximately $500,000, and will benefit not only the Grand Junction Police Department, but other local law enforcement agencies who utilize the facility.
Since it’s establishment in 2011, Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District has awarded over $8 million in grant funds to public entities in Mesa County.
