Police News Posted on January 03, 2025 | Last Updated on January 03, 2025

The Grand Junction Police Department is alerting the community about a scam involving individuals posing as federal Medicare or Medicaid employees or representatives of government organizations. These scammers attempt to obtain personal information, such as dates of birth, medical benefits, and other identifying details, under the guise of "confirming" your information. They may contact potential victims through phone calls or emails, often sending official-looking letters to appear credible.

Their goal is to commit fraud, which could result in significant financial loss to victims.

Protect Yourself with These Safety Tips:

  1. Safeguard Personal Information: Never share your government issued healthcare ID, Social Security number, or other personal information unless you verify the request's legitimacy.
  2. Verify the Source: Be wary of unsolicited calls, emails, or letters asking for personal information.
  3. Monitor Your Accounts: Regularly review your medical statements and financial records for any unauthorized activity.

If you suspect you’ve been targeted by scammers, trust your instincts - if it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Victims of scams are encouraged to file an online report or contact the Grand Junction Police Department at 970-549-5000.

Stay vigilant and protect yourself from falling victim to fraud.
