[ARCHIVED] GJPD Arrests Barricaded Subject for DV, Assault #GVCopBeat

Grand Junction Police Department Badge

Shortly before 5:30pm on Saturday, May 15, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 Block of Ouray Avenue on a report of an assault.  The victim called 9-1-1 and reported that she had been attacked by a known adult male and had locked herself in a bedroom.  The suspect was reported to be armed with a machete and was also possibly in possession of a firearm.

Officers arrived on scene and extricated the female victim from a first floor window of the residence.  Numerous attempts were made to contact the male suspect by phone, who was believed to still be in the residence.  Officers also attempted loud hails over a PA system, ordering the male out of the residence, with no response.  Ultimately, the owner of the home gave consent for law enforcement to enter the house.  After an extensive search, the suspect was located hiding in the attic and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility for numerous charges, including assault and domestic violence.

Ouray Avenue was closed between 14th Street and 15th Street for the duration of this incident, which lasted over 3 hours, and required a response of 17 law enforcement personnel.  A shelter in place emergency notification was sent to 110 contacts in the vicinity of the incident.  The victim did not suffer serious injuries.
