The City of Grand Junction Solid Waste Division provides automated refuse collection to all residential customers of less than eight units within city limits. Commercial refuse collection and curbside recycling are also available.
The Solid Waste Division is a utility enterprise, funded with a minimum fund balance of 15% of annual operating expenses. Rates and rate changes are established by resolution. The fund's existence is to provide quality refuse collection to community members at a fair price.

The City is transitioning to a trash program which includes automated recycling and yard waste compost collection as part of trash services. Residents will receive notice by mail as the new program expands to each area.

2026 Holiday Collection Schedule
There is no trash or recycling collection on major holidays. When the holiday listed below falls on a weekday, all trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day the remainder of the week.
- Thursday, January 1 (New Year's Day)
- Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day)
- Monday, September 7 (Labor Day)
- Thursday, November 26 (Thanksgiving Day)
- Friday, December 25 (Christmas Day)
Special Assistance
The Solid Waste Division provides special service for seniors and those with disabilities. Each week, on the scheduled trash day, the equipment operator will pull the automated container out to the street, empty the container, and then bring the container back to its original location.
