Recycling Division

The Recycling Division offers curbside recycling for residential homes and dwellings 4-plex and under. Curbside customers must reside within city limits. The Drop Off Center is free and open to the public. All products listed in the guidelines are sent to market and never landfilled. Materials that meet guidelines and arrive at the recycling facility will be recycled as all materials have a strong, domestic market and are sent to mills right here in the United States.

Services Offered

The Multi-Stream Recycling service consists of a truck and trailer unit that collects recyclable material by hand. Customers pre-sort material into five categories and place on the curb in bags or tubs. This program was the first recycling collection introduced to the City of Grand Junction by Curbside Recycling Indefinitely (GJ CRI) in 1992. In February of 2022, the City acquired GJ CRI. The acquisition is providing expansion and diversion opportunities for city residents along with alignment of sustainability goals set forth in the One Grand Junction Comprehensive Plan. The New Trash & Dual Stream Recycling Program is the City's newest program which offers city residents curbside recycling and seasonal yard waste collection as part of its residential trash service. Curbside recyclable material is separated into two bins, or dual stream. Collection of dual stream recycling bins occurs every other week on the same day as trash service. Along with dual stream recycling bins, a yard waste compost bin is also available to residents, with weekly collection from April through the end of October. The new recycling program operates utilizing automated trucks and provides streamlined service to a greater number of residents. The City is transitioning from multi-stream recycling collection to the dual stream program, phasing in areas over time to allow the growth of fleet, facility, and inventory. Residents will receive notice by mail when the new program expands to each neighborhood. Prices are reflective of the size of the trash can and residents may choose to opt-in to recycling and/or yard waste collection at no additional charge. The Recycling Division also operates a free Drop Off Center. The drop off is open to the public Monday through Saturday and greets thousands of visitors monthly. An attendant is always available to assist or answer questions. Access the Drop Off Recycling Guidelines

Please be sure to check the recycling guidelines for in-depth descriptions of acceptable and prohibited material for each program. Thank you for recycling responsibly!
