Get to Know Your H2O

The City of Grand Junction is uniquely situated in a semi-arid, high desert region of Western Colorado. In our neck of the woods, precipitation is scarce.

Fortunately, Grand Junction is sustained by the largest flat-top mountain in the world, called the Grand Mesa to our east. The Grand Mesa is a pristine source of drinking and irrigation water. Additionally, Grand Junction residents are fortunate to be the first users of this water source.

Over the last several years, our region has experienced unprecedented drought and temperature change, impacting the snowpack atop the Grand Mesa. This has resulted in diminished snowpack levels, runoff, and supply in our main municipal watershed. It's more important than ever for residents to conserve water to ensure our City has the resources to sustain future generations in our region.
