Grand Junction, CO – At 11:25 p.m. last night, the Grand Junction Fire Department (GJFD) responded to reports of a shed fire in the 260 block of Lauralee Avenue. A concerned neighbor called 9-1-1, reporting that the fire was spreading to a nearby tree.
GJFD crews arrived promptly and extinguished the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures. Firefighters determined that improperly discarded ashes were the cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported. GJFD reminds residents to ensure ashes are completely cooled before disposal and to use a metal container placed away from flammable materials to avoid similar incidents.
