At 4:05 a.m., the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of fire on a second-floor balcony of a multi-unit apartment building located at 1260 Glenwood Avenue.
Upon arrival, firefighters began working to extinguish the fire. Additional firefighters quickly evacuated the apartments, and checked to see if fire had spread inside any of the units. Finding that the fire was isolated to the deck, they were able to quickly put out out the fire and extinguish hot spots.
No injuries were reported as a result of this incident, and only the deck of the building was damaged. Evidence pointed to improperly discarded smoking materials as the cause.
