Friday at 5:07 p.m. Grand Junction Fire Department responded, providing mutual aid to Clifton Fire Department, for reports of a motor vehicle on fire on the 3100 block of Perkins Drive. As crews were responding, multiple people calling 911 offered more information that an RV was on fire in a densely packed storage area next to a mobile home park. With this new information GJFD ordered additional firefighting resources to respond to the call. When crews arrived on scene they found an RV and two Conex storage containers fully involved producing heavy black smoke. A person on scene let crews know they had been using a cutting torch at the time the fire started, and the fire grew quickly out of control. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. Crews worked to contain the blaze and protect the nearby property. Ultimately the RV and the contents of the storage containers were lost in the blaze, but the surrounding storage area and nearby homes were effectively protected.
