The City of Grand Junction recently opened a new employee-based childcare facility serving children from 6-weeks to six years of age.

In 2021, the City of Grand Junction was awarded an $800,000 state-funded Employee-Based Child Care grant, which helped kick-start the project. City Council approved an additional $600,000 to expand the project, adding two rooms and nearly 1800 square feet to the facility bringing the total number of rooms to five.

“Serving the loved ones of those that serve the community is an honor,” said Human Resources Director Shelley Caskey. “This facility and the dedicated staff providing care for the children of city employees will ultimately help the City attract and retain staff in what continues to be a tight labor market.”

The City of Grand Junction is proud to offer child care services for employees that include flexible schedules to best accommodate the shift work typical of law enforcement, firefighters, and Emergency Medical Services providers.

Construction and renovation on the facility began in January of this year and was completed in September. The licensed child care facility is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department in the renovated portion of the facility.
