The City of Grand Junction understands the importance of planning for the future. The Community Development Department initiates and facilitates long range planning efforts for the City. Over the years the city has adopted long range plans for the entire urban area, neighborhood planning areas, street corridors, area plans, subarea plans and overlay districts. Many of these Plans are planned jointly with Mesa County and adopted by both entities. The City’s 2010 Comprehensive Plan took 30 months to complete and was adopted jointly by the City and Mesa County in February 2010.
What is a Comprehensive Plan?
Grand Junction’s Comprehensive Plan is a blueprint for the City and the foundation of the plan is the community’s vision for its future. This vision guides the goals and strategies included in the plan that ultimately directs future growth and development in Grand Junction.
The Plan works to identify goals, strategies and actions that reflect the values and vision for the community as a whole.
The existing 2010 Grand Junction Comprehensive Plan looks into the future to the year 2035 and plans for the doubling of the urban area’s population. The vision the Plan set for our community is to “Become the most Livable Community West of the Rockies”.
As the City looks ahead, it is important that plans stay current. Plans will be revised, updated and written to address the needs of the future. We welcome you to participate and ask you to join us as we plan for our community.
2020 Comprehensive Plan Update
We invite you to participate in helping the City plan for the future. The City of Grand Junction is conducting a 2020 Comprehensive Plan update to plan for the next 10 to 20 years. The planning process began February 2019 and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2020. The One Grand Junction website has been launched to help in that effort.
How can I get involved?
When the City releases the draft 2020 Comprehensive Plan please take look at it and provide the City your comments on it. A public open house will be held and you are invited to attend. Check back on this website for access to the draft plan and time/location of the open house. Following the open house, public hearings will be held to consider adoption of the plan. The public is encouraged and invited to participate.
