On December 26, 2024, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a fatal crash near the intersection of I-70B and 28 Road.
The initial investigation revealed that the driver of a vehicle, traveling westbound on I-70B, was fatally injured after colliding with a truck that was turning eastbound onto I-70B from the frontage road near the 28 Road intersection.
Following an extensive investigation, officers established probable cause to charge the driver of the truck, 78-year-old Jake Gallegos. On July 22, 2025, Gallegos was arrested and released on a summons for Careless Driving Resulting in Death.
