The driver of the moped involved in the crash on June 1, 2025, at the intersection of North Avenue and 28 ¼ Road has succumbed to his injuries.
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once proper notifications have been made.
Following a thorough investigation, officers determined the moped driver ran a red light at the intersection, resulting in a collision with a truck. No charges will be filed in this case.
The Grand Junction Police Department urges all road users to slow down, stay alert, and follow traffic laws to help prevent tragedies like this from happening.

On June 1, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a moped vs vehicle crash at the intersection of North Avenue and 28 ¼ Road.
Through the initial investigation, officers determined that the moped was traveling westbound on North Avenue when it ran a red light and collided with a truck that was headed south on 28 ¼ Road.
The moped driver sustained suspected life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department.
Traffic in the area was impacted for a couple of hours as officers investigated the crash.
