Police News Posted on September 09, 2025

The Grand Junction Police Department is alerting the public to a recurring text message scam. Scammers are sending threatening messages claiming to be from cartels, gangs, or criminal organizations. These messages may include graphic images and personal details—like names, addresses, or family information—often obtained from data breaches or social media. Victims are pressured to send money under threats of violence or kidnapping.

Protect Yourself:

  • Do Not Respond – Never reply or send money.
  • Block the Number – Stop further contact.
  • Report It – Call your local law enforcement at 970-242-6707 or report online here.

These threats are fraudulent and meant to create fear. Stay calm, stay informed, and share this information to protect others.
