The Grand Junction Police Department is pleased to join other law enforcement agencies across the nation in partnering with the Neighbors app by Ring. This collaboration provides our officers and detectives yet another resource in our efforts to improve the quality of life for the residents of Grand Junction and compliments our agency’s commitment to working with members of our community to deter and solve crime in our neighborhoods. Our officers will be empowered to use information shared through the Neighbors app to aid in the identification of suspects, as well as directing patrols in order to deter crimes.
Here’s how it works:
- Anyone with a smartphone can download the free Neighbors app—you do not have to have a Ring device to participate!
- Text "Join Today" to 555888 to download the Neighbors app for free.
- Opt in and customize the geographic area you want to receive notifications for (users must verify where they are located and cannot participate in other neighborhoods).
- Receive real-time alerts from your neighbors and local law enforcement that inform of crime and safety alerts as they happen.
- View local crime and safety posts via a live feed or interactive map.
- Share text updates, photos and videos taken on any device.
- Work with your community to make neighborhoods safer.
What about your privacy?
- The GJPD cannot access your security device, such as seeing your live video stream or otherwise controlling your device.
- The GJPD cannot view any of your security video recordings unless you post it to the Neighbors App or share it in response to a video request.
- The GJPD cannot see your name, contact information, location unless you post that information to the Neighbors App or share your video recordings in response to a video request notification. Should you choose to share your recordings, the recordings you chose to share, your street address (the address associated with your Ring device), and the email address associated with your account will be shared with the public safety user who requested the recordings.
“We’re constantly evaluating our tools and resources to find new ways to keep our community safe, and utilizing the Neighbors app fits right in with that mission,” says GJPD Deputy Chief of Operations, Matt Smith. “We rely on the people who live and work in Grand Junction to collaborate with us in reporting what they’re seeing in their neighborhoods, and this is an opportunity to enhance that partnership.”
The Neighbors app is not meant to replace 9-1-1 or traditional reporting, nor will it replace any other methods of communication with our community, such as other social media platforms, traditional media communications, or emergency alerts.
