[ARCHIVED] New Art Exhibit "Who We Are" Installed at City Hall

Who We Are (Newsflash)

The new “Who We Are” art exhibit installed at City Hall 250 N. 5th Street, celebrates the diversity in the community with an array of local art hung on the first floor and a solo documentary photography exhibit titled “Where’s Sassy” showcased in the hallway on the second floor. Where's Sassy, whose exhibition celebrates its 12th anniversary, is documentary-style photography of the Watson Island following clean up and renovation of the area. The documentary highlights the discovery of personal belongings left behind after the clean up, and offer an intimate view into the life of some of the most vulnerable populations. The exhibit focuses on the way nature changes perspective of the things left behind.

The exhibits will remain open to the public through July 11, 2023. The exhibits are intended to specifically showcase and celebrate artists from communities of color, as well as immigrant, and refugee populations in the Grand Junction area.

“The ‘Who We Are’ exhibit enhances the vibrant art culture in Grand Junction while showcasing the many talented artists who call the Grand Junction area home,” stated Marlene Godsey, staff liaison for the Commission on Arts and Culture. “We are especially thrilled to highlight ‘Where’s Sassy’ for the 12th year.”

The “Who We Are” art exhibit is curated by Grand Junction Parks and Recreation in conjunction with the Commission on Arts and Culture. The Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture is dedicated to developing the quantity, quality, and affordability of arts and culture for the Grand Junction area. Since 1990, the Commission on Arts and Culture has worked to support the community’s artistic resources and cultural activities.
