City Offers Drop Off For Cooking Oil and Grease

Large turkey and other food items

In addition to the City of Grand Junction’s recycling center which provides an opportunity to drop off food waste for composting, the city offers a location for the community to drop off holiday season cooking oil for re-use/reclaim.

Residents can drop off used cooking oil and grease in the recycle container located in front of the Water Services Office near the recycling center at 333 West Avenue.

“Cooking oil and grease can clog drains and make a real mess in pipes,” stated Randi Kim, Utilities director. “After the turkey is cooked and a great meal has been enjoyed by your guests, all that cooking grease and oil can be recycled for reuse. The city’s program helps reduce the amount of cooking oils and grease disposed of in the sewer system during the holidays when many of us are cooking at home for family and friends.”

City Cooking Oil Disposal Site Hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Closed November 24 and 25, December 26, and January 2
