At 2:38 PM Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in an first-floor apartment on the 1900 Block of Barcelona Way. The apartment was unoccupied at the time and neighbors called 9-1-1 to report the fire. When crews arrived on scene they found that several residents of the building had self-evacuated and that GJPD had evacuated one apartment near the fire. No injuries were reported, and crews were able to quickly contain the fire to a single room with significant damage in that room. Fire crews also made sure that the fire had not spread to nearby apartments on the first or second floor.
GJFD responded with Engine 2, Engine 4, Engine 3, Engine 5, Ambulance 1, Ambulance 3, a Battalion Chief, and an Investigator. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation. GJPD responded and assisted with evacuation and scene safety. Red Cross responded to assist one adult and four children who were displaced from the apartment.
