The City of Grand Junction will host a combined ribbon cutting and groundbreaking celebration for the Dos Rios development on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 4 p.m. at the Magpie Shelter, just west of the Dos Rios bike playground. The ribbon cutting commemorates the completed infrastructure including the roads, sidewalks, utilities, and Dos Rios Park including the bicycle playground. The groundbreaking celebrates the beginning of all the private mixed-use development on the site that will, at full build out, include extensive residential, commercial, and retail uses.
The event will include a short ceremony featuring remarks from Mayor Anna Stout, various project renderings of the future playground, climbing structures, the water feature, as well as commercial and residential properties, and a special bicycle demonstration by Riverside Education Center students. Members of the public along with the many project partners are invited to attend the event.
“We are proud of the strong public-private partnership that is at the core of this riverfront revitalization,” stated Ken Sherbenou, Parks & Recreation director. “That collaboration is the driving force behind the transformation of this area into a viable and unique community hub to serve our growing City.”
Private partners May-Riegler and Sky Outpost/El Jets Cantina have joined forces with the City of Grand Junction, the Downtown Development Authority, and the newly formed General Improvement District to fund these major improvements that have been completed and are currently underway.
Grant funding from the Colorado Health Foundation and the Department of Local Affairs is helping to support this project. Strong community engagement from leaders in the adjacent Riverside Neighborhood and non-profit partners like the Riverside Educational Center has also fueled the major transformation that is currently underway.
