[ARCHIVED] City Issues Calls for Artists to Create Murals At Duck Pond Park and Eagle Rim Park in Orchard Mesa

Call for Artists (1)

The Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture Commission has announced calls for artists interested in creating murals at Duck Pond Park and the Eagle Rim Skate Park in Orchard Mesa. Interested artists are invited to apply by submitting a color design concept to Marlene Godsey, Parks and Recreation coordinator for Art and Adult Programs at marleneg@gjcity.org by Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

For Duck Pond Park, the work will be completed along the retaining wall in front of the restrooms and the main entrance walking path. Artists are asked to feature local nature scenery that will complement the park. The mural installation is intended to brighten up the park, offer more public art across the river, and compliment the scenery and the creek that runs through the park. The request for proposal includes photos of the unique space available for mural art at Duck Pond Park.

For Eagle Rim Skate Park, a variety of canvas sizes and shapes are available in locations throughout the skate park.  This is part of the annual skate mural program designed to help improve the skate parks and make them a welcoming place for all users, while also offering local artists opportunities to express themselves.

Paint dates for both locations are from November 6-13, 2022.

The Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture is dedicated to developing the quantity, quality, and affordability of arts and culture for the Grand Junction area. Since 1990, the Commission on Arts and Culture has worked to support the community’s artistic resources and cultural activities. For more information call 970-254-3876.
