The City of Grand Junction invites the community to attend the Community Recreation Center (CRC) public workshop scheduled for Tuesday, June 14 at the Lincoln Park Barn, 12th Street, south of North Avenue, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The public workshop is part of a series of focus groups and public meetings on June 13 and June 14 to collect community input regarding the future of a possible community recreation center. The Community Recreation Center planning process is scheduled to conclude fall of 2022.
In early 2022, Colorado Mesa University faculty conducted a statistically valid survey regarding the potential for a Grand Junction CRC. The survey results indicated community support for a CRC. The survey was designed to understand preferences related to topics such as overall need, funding, location, facilities, and fees. This survey was a direct result of the Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Master Plan adopted in early 2021 in which a community recreation center was the highest priority. Additional information will be shared with the community about the evolving plan.
Additional public input will be collected to steer the plan regarding the future of the possible Community Recreation Center. As with the PROS Master Plan, and with the survey conducted earlier this year by Colorado Mesa University, community input continues to drive this process.
The PROS Master Plan outlines top priorities for the parks and recreation system as well as projects to be completed over the next eight to ten years. The City of Grand Junction looks forward to improving the parks and recreation system with the priorities and projects outlined in the PROS Master Plan.
