The Grand Junction Parks & Recreation Department, in partnership with the non-profit Strive, is organizing a great pumpkin growing contest. Strive is the operator of the Western Colorado Botanic Gardens.
In an effort to “grow” the horticulture community, a $1,000 cash prize will be awarded to the registrant with the winning pumpkin. This is an opportunity for the community to put their green thumb to the test.
The first 150 registrants will receive an Atlantic Giant pumpkin plant. Registration is open until August 31, 2022. Pumpkin plant pick-up is at the Parks and Recreation Office from May 23-27, 2022, from 8 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
The weigh-off is scheduled for October 29 at the Western Botanical Gardens. Weigh-off instructions will be available on September 1. Registrants are responsible for transportation of their Atlantic Giant pumpkin to the Botanical Gardens for weighing. Proceeds will benefit the Western Colorado Botanic Gardens.
