GJFD Responds to Home Fire in Orchard Mesa

911 on cell phone screen

At 4:51 PM Friday evening Grand Junction Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a home on fire on the 2700 block of Unaweep Avenue. When crews arrived on scene they found a detached garage engulfed in flames that had spread to a nearby power pole, with fire beginning to spread to two other outbuildings. As crews began fighting the fire the wind began to spread the flames to a nearby home. Four people safely evacuated from the two homes, one person was evaluated by the ambulance crew but no injuries were reported. Fire crews were able to defend both homes, with only minor damage to one. Crews were also successful in protecting another outbuilding, a vehicle, and a boat on the properties. The detached garage and one outbuilding were a complete loss. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.

GJFD responded with a Battalion Chief, Ambulance 4, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 5, and Truck 1. GJPD also responded and assisted with scene safety. Xcel Energy responded to assist with utilities and the burnt power pole.
