The voters approved referred measures 2A and 2B at the City election on April 6, 2021. The approval of those measures provides the City Council with an opportunity to establish tax rates and regulations for the retail cannabis industry in Grand Junction. After many workshops and dialogue throughout the last year, the City Council has determined which guidelines cannabis businesses can operate within Grand Junction city limits.
At the May 4, 2022 regular meeting, City Council adopted Ordinance No. 5070 related to cannabis business licensing land use regulations including use standards, buffering, and signage requirements. On April 6, 2022, City Council adopted Ordinance No. 5064 related to including certain cannabis use licenses and regulations in the Grand Junction Municipal Code (GJMC), and Ordinance No. 5065, which articulates the uses of the special sales and use tax and excise tax of 6 percent from the City’s regular sales tax collection of 3.25 percent.
