At 5:38 PM Monday evening Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at CORRecycle on the 700 block of Arrowest Road. Callers reported thick black smoke and flames coming from the address. Occupants were able to safely evacuate from the building. Responding crews set up outside the building drowning the heavy flames from above with a master stream from Ladder 1 and Ladder 6, and a third stream covered the front of the building from Engine 3’s deck gun. Firefighters working on the ground set up a fourth water stream from a large nozzle on the ground. Crews worked to keep the fire contained to the property while repositioning water streams to reach the flames inside the building. At 8:40 PM crews were able to enter the building to begin extinguishing spot fires and to look for remaining hot spots inside the structure. There are no known injuries. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.
GJFD responded with Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Truck 6, Ambulance 6, Battalion 1, and three administrative chiefs. The Grand Junction Police Department responded to assist with scene safety.
