GJFD Using New Tools to Save Lives

video laryngoscope

Hold your breath for as long as you can. Go ahead, we’ll wait. Good job! That is exactly how long a GJFD first responder has to place a breathing tube in the windpipe of a patient having a serious medical emergency. That’s how long first responders have to ensure life-giving oxygen is traveling through the correct pathway into the lungs and not the patient’s stomach. Thanks to a grant from the State of Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment totaling $10,186 GJFD has equipped all our ambulances with video laryngoscopes. Video laryngoscopy is a technology that allows first responders to see directly down their patient's throat on a high-resolution video screen and greatly increases the speed and accuracy of placing a lifesaving breathing tube on the first attempt.
