[ARCHIVED] Carson Lake Dam Rehabilitation

Carson Lake Dam

Carson Lake (also known as Hogchute Reservoir) is part of the City of Grand Junction’s water supply network. The Carson Lake Dam was reclassified as a High Hazard Dam in 2015 due to development occurring in the lower Kannah Creek basin. Construction improvement will begin July 2021 and is anticipated to last through October 2021. These upgrades are proactive measures to preserve the life of the dam, improve operations, and enhance safety for residents in the Kannah Creek basin.

The project will include improvements to the outlet pipeworks, the overflow spillway and channel, and will include a new Early Warning Telemetry System. The EWS is new to the City and is one of the first to be used on a remote reservoir site such as this in the state. During construction, National Forest System Road #108 between Land’s End Road and Carson Lake will be closed to make necessary improvements. This closure includes the parking lot and access to upper trails that start at Carson Lake.

Please contact the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests’, Grand Valley Ranger District at (970) 242-8211 for more information regarding trail closures and alternative routes
