The City of Grand Junction invites the community to join us in celebrating improvements made to Sherwood Park on Thursday, June 3 at 4:00 p.m. After the ceremony, participate in a free fitness circuit to learn how to use the new fitness equipment around the park. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Over the past year, multiple improvements have been made to Sherwood Park including the installation of a new playground, the planting of 50 new trees, and the installation of an AARP fitness circuit. The new playground, which was completed in the spring of 2020, replaced the 15-year-old playground. Thanks to community input and a partnership with the Friends of Sherwood Park, this new playground was installed. Over the past year, parks and recreation grew trees in an innovative aquaponics bareroot system and planted 50 new trees around Sherwood Park. The aquaponics system has multiple benefits compared to traditional planting methods including cost savings, water conservation, and it produces trees with a more natural root system. Lastly, the new fitness circuit was installed at the end of 2020 thanks to an AARP grant for $15,000. Users can now enjoy different fitness equipment while walking or running around the park’s path.
The City of Grand Junction looks forward to celebrating this growing park with the community.
