The Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture is looking for community members to partake in the process of updating the Strategic Cultural Plan of the Grand Valley. Please join us at the first meeting on Thursday, April 29 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Hospitality Suite of the Lincoln Park Sports Complex. Please RSVP to Lorie Gregor, lorieg@gjcity.org at (970) 254-3876 by April 26. Masks will be required in this facility.

For more information on the Strategic Cultural Plan, please visit gjarts.org. The Arts Commission asks that all participants review the current plan prior to attending the meeting. Participants will choose a topic category of interest and meet in small groups at least three times over the next eight months. These small groups will assess the current situation of their focus and articulate goals and strategies for the organizations and businesses of the Grand Valley related to the arts. Topic categories include:

1.    History

2.    Science & Culture

3.    Public Art

4.    Cultural Facilities & Urban Design

5.    Creative Industry

6.    Economic Impact

The Commission on Arts and Culture maintains and updates the Strategic Cultural Plan every five years. The Strategic Cultural Plan was last updated in 2017 with the participation of over 60 members of the community. Over the last five years, our community has experienced a great deal of success in implementing the strategies of the current Strategic Cultural Plan. Cultural opportunities and activities continue to grow throughout the valley, involving many organizations and businesses. Bringing together the people directly involved in the arts is critical to capture a shared vision for the next five years. It is an endeavor that requires cooperation and coordination. We hope for as much participation as possible in this important process.
