[ARCHIVED] 5th Street Interchange Landscape Renovation

5th Street Interchange Renovation

The City of Grand Junction is in the process of renovating the landscaping on the interchange of the Riverside Parkway & 5th Street (US-50). This interchange serves as a gateway to Grand Junction and is the first landscaped feature that visitors and community members see when entering the City from the south. This renovation replaces landscaping that did not reflect the community’s standards for public spaces.

The new landscaping design showcases the unique growing environment of the Grand Junction area and is designed to be aesthetically pleasing, water efficient, and cost efficient. The layout signifies the river valley flowing up the Colorado National Monument while showcasing native plants. The tallest point of this landscape represents higher elevations in the area. The confluence of the Colorado River and the Gunnison River are represented by two rivers of rock that point south toward Orchard Mesa. Design, planning and labor for this project was completed by City staff.

In the next month, City crews will be planting additional vegetation and grass varieties that require little water and maintenance but will add color to the overall design.
