At 1:34 AM this morning Grand Junction Fire Department responded to calls from a neighbor reporting a home on fire on the 600 block of Silver Oak Drive. When crews arrived on scene they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of the home. While searching the home, crews learned that the single occupant of the home was out of town. With fire conditions worsening, crews exited the home to fight the fire from the outside. No one was hurt in the fire, but the home was destroyed.
GJFD responded with Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 5, Truck 6, Ambulance 3, Ambulance 6, and a Battalion Chief. GJPD also responded to assist with traffic control and scene safety. Xcel Energy responded to shut off utilities to the home.
