The Grand Junction City Council voted last night to elect Cody Kennedy as the incoming Mayor and Laurel Cole as Mayor Pro Tem for the next term from May 2025-April 2026. Each year city council elects these two positions from among their members.
Cody Kennedy served Grand Junction for 17 years as a police officer, finishing his career as a detective solving complex financial crimes and homicide cases. Kennedy is a small business owner with 20 years of experience with housing in the Grand Valley. He is a father of three amazing young women and a husband of an educator.
Laurel Cole serves the community and has experience working with local, state, and federal governments. With a passion for affordable homeownership, Cole moved to Grand Junction to be the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County. Cole has always believed in transparency and communication and works hard to model both of these values every day. Cole is inspired by building stronger neighborhoods, affordable housing, and sustainable growth that protects the unique aspects of Grand Junction.
