City of Grand Junction Parks & Recreation Supervisor Ron Felt will be retiring after 45 years of service on January 22nd. Ron’s career with the City started in 1976 as a seasonal maintenance worker. Ron worked seasonally for four seasons before being promoted to an Equipment Operator and shortly thereafter, to the Crew Leader position. In 1986 Ron was promoted to Parks & Recreation’s Maintenance Supervisor, the position in which he will retire.
Ron was responsible for the maintenance of the Riverfront at Las Colonias, including the Business Park, Amphitheatre and River Park, most City parks, and the Riverfront Trail system.
Over his 45 years of service, Ron has been a part of many Parks & Recreation Department projects including two renovations to the Lincoln Park Pool, the development of numerous parks including Cottonwood Meadows, Canyon View, and the first phases of Riverfront Trail at Blue Heron. Ron enjoyed his supervision over sports facilities the most, especially the annual preparation for the Junior College World Series (JUCO).
Parks & Recreation Director Ken Sherbenou said of Ron’s time with the department, “Ron’s fingerprints on the parks and recreation system are many; this translates to bettering the quality of life in Grand Junction. We wish him well as he embarks on a well-earned retirement”.
