The City of Grand Junction is gathering community input on the 7th Street Active Transportation project by conducting a feasibility study to determine the best options for establishing and improving low-stress active transportation facilities along 7th Street, between the Riverfront Trail and Horizon Drive.
Community members can participate in the study by providing input regarding their current experience traveling along the 7th Street corridor whether biking, walking or driving a car at EngageGJ.org. Additional feedback on the project can be provided by taking a short online survey which closes on Wed., July 31, 2024.
“The 2023 Grand Junction Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan identified 7th Street as a key north-south corridor through the urban core. We look forward to the community’s input into how the corridor can be transformed to safely serve all modes of travel” said Trent Prall, Engineering and Transportation director.
A steering committee was selected from members of the community who have a specific interest in travel along 7th Street and they will help to guide the study goals in relation to the Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan as well as recommend facilities, identify high-risk locations, review information received during the public outreach, and other tasks. The steering committee will work with the project team including the consultant, KLJ Engineering, and be supported by city staff with technical expertise in transportation, planning, emergency response, and urban forestry.
Through the One Grand Junction Comprehensive Plan and Grand Junction Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan, the City of Grand Junction has identified the need to continue to develop a safe, balanced, and well-connected transportation system that enhances mobility of all modes along with the importance of installing low-stress, high comfort bike facilities along the city’s active transportation corridors. Community members can provide their feedback on EngageGJ.org or by visiting pop-up booths during community events such as Market on Main.
