The City of Grand Junction has opened the process of submitting photographs to be selected for inclusion in its annual printed calendar for 2025. This year, the categories for photograph submission include landscapes, cityscapes, and city events. Photographers are encouraged to submit photos that celebrate the beauty of the community, including scenes, and special events like the holiday lights, Special Olympics, the Cesar Chavez Day Festival, the July 4th parade, mountain biking, river recreation, bike races, concerts at the Amphitheater at Las Colonias, Market on Main, and other snapshots of life in Grand Junction. Other photo options can include sunrises/sunsets and seasonal photographs of the Colorado National Monument, Mount Garfield, Rattlesnake Arches, and the Grand Mesa. This annual calendar project, a favorite of city residents, also serves as the city’s annual report and includes financial information, a letter from the mayor, a look back at all that was accomplished in 2024, a directory of city offices and services, and information about serving as a volunteer on city boards and commissions.
Photographs are submitted electronically and then undergo an initial assessment for quality before moving on to the final process of review and selection by the Commission on Arts and Culture. Photographs must be a minimum of 300 dpi in file formats that include jpg, tif, and png, horizontal photos are encouraged. Photographers are recognized with their name and website URL (if applicable), which are printed with their photo. Photographers will also be contacted to add a title to submitted photos used in the calendar. All photos submitted for the annual calendar may also be used in marketing efforts to promote the beauty of the Grand Junction area and all that it has to offer visitors and residents.
Calendars are mailed to households within city limits in November and free copies are available for pick up at City Hall at 250 N. 5th St., the Utilities office at 910 Main St., the Parks and Recreation office at 1340 Gunnison Ave., and at Visit Grand Junction at 740 Horizon Drive.
