The popular "aRT – Art on the Riverfront Trail" program returns for 2024 with applications for artists opening on Monday, June 10. Artists chosen for this project can begin painting on August 12, 2024, with all murals scheduled to be completed by Friday, August 30, 2024.

This year, five designated areas along the trail will host a total of 14 new murals. The selected artists will receive a stipend of $1,000 each, helping to cover the cost of supplies.

“This biennial mural initiative aims to enrich the experience for trail users by ensuring the Riverfront Trail is a dynamic art gallery,” stated Ken Sherbenou, Parks and Recreation director. “The project specifically targets underpasses along the trail, turning them into vibrant canvases that reflect colorful and artistic expressions.”

“With a fluid, changing collection of murals updated every two years, aRT brings continual freshness and creativity to the trail, enhancing the outdoor experience for all users,” continued Sherbenou.

The aRT program has consistently boosted local tourism and economic development by enhancing the trail’s appeal. A vibrant trail environment not only attracts visitors but also benefits nearby businesses. Additionally, the program has contributed to reducing vandalism and expanding the public art scene in Grand Junction.
