The City of Grand Junction is responding to a sanitary sewer spill that occurred on Wednesday, December 2. The spill occurred along Village Circle in the Redlands.
The spill was first observed by a resident who saw overflow from two manhole covers and reported it to the City. The overflow was caused by tree root intrusion into the sewer pipe. Upon cutting the roots, crews were able to stop the overflow. There was no direct exposure to residents.
The response crew has completed clean-up operations of the impacted area. The total volume of the spill is estimated to be approximately 1,000 gallons and some of that volume reached a tributary to Lime Kiln Gulch. The City has notified the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment as is required and is currently working to complete the required reporting.
