[ARCHIVED] City of Grand Junction Installs Standing Ram Sculpture at Redlands Roundabout

A metal Ram crafted by a local artist loaded on a truck bed in preparation for installation.

The City of Grand Junction, in collaboration with local artist Pavia Justinian, is planning to install the final element of the Redlands Roundabout sculpture at the intersection of Broadway and Redlands Parkway on Friday, January 12, 2024. The sculpture is entitled Rams in the Redlands and the standing ram overlooking the herd completes the bighorn scene.

Artist Pavia Justinian created the original pieces that included two sparring rams and a mother and baby ram, which were installed in the spring of 2023. Justinian worked over the second half of last year to build the final sculpture of the standing ram. The rock ledge was created with steel, epoxy, and red stone with Quality Stucco West helping with the creation of the rock façade upon which he will stand. The standing ram, like the others in the sculpture, was created using vintage car fenders and other shaped steel.

Justinian is a Colorado mixed media sculptor with award-winning work featured in public art programs throughout the state and held in private collections across the southwest. She creates sculptures using mixed media including salvaged chrome, cement, epoxy, mosaic glass, and other objects. More information on artist Pavia Justinian. The artist was selected through a competitive call for artists and the final artist selection was made by the Commission on Arts and Culture in consultation with the city.  For more information about the Redlands Roundabout project, call Grand Junction Parks and Recreation at 970-254-3866.
