The open house will provide community members with an opportunity to learn about the developing plan and offer input on potential strategies. The event will feature family-friendly interactive activities, refreshments, and free giveaways will be provided including LED Light Kits.
The Sustainability and Adaptation Plan will provide long-range goals to guide community and city actions. The plan will complement the One Grand Junction Comprehensive Plan to address social, environmental, and economic opportunities for sustainability and adaptation in the region and to ensure a healthy future for all community members.
To prepare the plan, the city contracted with a consulting team of two organizations including Design Workshop and Spirit Environmental. The effort began in August 2023 and is expected to take 12 months. The completion of the Current Conditions and Community Summary is the first deliverable in the plan development process. This document combines research on current baseline conditions with a focus on areas of high importance as expressed by community members. These focus areas were identified through different avenues of community engagement. Focus areas identified as high importance to community members are climate resilience, energy stewardship, waste management, water conservation, and the built environment.
