The City of Grand Junction is continuing the planning process for the potential renovation of Emerson Park into a destination skate/wheel park. A second virtual community meeting will be held on Thursday, July 27 at 6 p.m. Improvements at Emerson Park are being conducted in collaboration with Team Pain Skate Parks, the Atwell Group, and Clauson Rawley Associates. Interested community members can access the link for the virtual meeting on the city calendar. Information about the Emerson Park project and comments is available online at EngageGj.org.

The meeting will unveil the concept design that has grown out of community engagement thus far including cost estimates and a virtual skate through the possible park.

Team Pain Skate Parks is a national design-build firm with more than 30 years of experience in the industry. They specialize in custom skate structures, concrete skate park facilities, indoor facilities, and high-profile specialty structures. They have designed and constructed 26 concrete skate park facilities throughout Colorado and more than 350 skate structures and skate parks worldwide.

The City of Grand Junction has two public skate parks: West Lake and Eagle Rim. West Lake offers 18,000 square feet with three large concrete bowls, a street skate area, rails, walls, and ramps. Eagle Rim skate park is a compact concrete park made up of a mix of transition and street built in 2000. Both parks are maintained by Grand Junction Parks and Recreation.

The reactivation of Emerson Park is outlined as a priority in the 2021 Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Master Plan for the parks and recreation system. Questions? Contact Grand Junction Parks and Recreation at 970-254-3866, email gjparksandrec@gjcity.org, or go to gjcity.org
