Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a hit-and-run in the 2800 block of North Avenue on 05/26/23, at approximately 4:55pm. A driver of an SUV struck another vehicle and then drove into oncoming traffic before striking another vehicle in the 2800 block of North Avenue, disabling his vehicle on the median and downing a power pole. The driver attempted to flee from the scene and was stopped by witnesses. There were no serious injuries sustained in any of the crashes and speed is being looked at as a contributing factor. The suspect driver, Kevin Sails, age 46, was arrested for Attempted Vehicular Assault and other related traffic charges.
Sails was taken into custody and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility. The roadway was closed for a short time while Xcel Energy and first responders cleared the scene and made the area safe. The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community. This incident is under investigation and there is no further information available at this time.
