The City of Grand Junction has approved firework shows for 2023 at Lincoln Park Stadium’s Suplizio Field. Five shows are planned this spring and summer to celebrate the major events of Memorial Day, the 4th of July, the start of the GJ Jackalopes baseball season, the Jackalopes final summer game before the start of school, and Colorado Mesa University’s participation night. The only fireworks show hosted by the city is the one on the 4th of July.
On Tuesday, the 4th of July, the GJ Jackalopes game will begin at 4:05 p.m. Family-friendly activities will occur between the conclusion of the game and the beginning of the fireworks, which will begin at 9:45 p.m.
“The plan for fireworks this year at Lincoln Park is modeled on the success of the shows in 2022,” said Parks and Recreation Director Ken Sherbenou. “Reducing the number of fireworks shows last year was well received by the community. While we know many people enjoy watching fireworks, especially on the 4th of July, we heard from others that reducing the number of shows and holding them earlier would help lessen the impact on people and pets who are sensitive to the noise they create.”
During previous years, there have been between 10-12 firework shows each year; however, based on community input the city and the partners that coordinate the shows reduced the number of shows in 2022 and will host the same number of shows this year.
Parks and Recreation offers a wide variety of recreational programming for all ages and abilities as described in the seasonal activity guide.
