[ARCHIVED] City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation to Host Several Holiday Events

Santa Cause Run

The City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation is hosting several upcoming holiday-themed events for the community, ranging from family-friendly activities to events for adults.

The first event is the 24th annual Candy Cane Hunt on Saturday, December 6, at the Lincoln Park Barn. Check-in begins at 10 a.m., and the hunt starts at 11 a.m. Before the hunt, families can enjoy crafts, cookies, and hot chocolate. No preregistration or payment is required to participate.

Next is the Senior Holiday Light Tour, which begins at the Lincoln Park Barn at 5:15 p.m. Participants can enjoy hot chocolate, holiday goodies, and live festive entertainment before boarding a bus for a tour of the holiday light displays around the city. The bus will return to the barn around 8:15 p.m. Due to the popularity of this event last year, we are now offering this event on two different nights. The first night will be Wednesday, December 10, and the other will be on Wednesday, December 17. Anyone age 50 and older is welcome to attend. This event typically fills up quickly; early registration is recommended. gjpr.org/SeniorLightTour

The Chocolate Walk, which has already sold out, will be on Friday, December 12. This event is an opportunity to experience downtown Grand Junction's holiday charm during a guided walking tour of Main Street. A waitlist is available online gjpr.org/ChocolateWalk

The final holiday event is the 10th annual Santa Cause Run, in partnership with Kiwanis Club of Grand Junction. The event will be on Saturday, December 13, starting at 10 a.m. at the Las Colinas Amphitheater. Proceeds from the festive 5K and 1K run support inclusive playground equipment in the community, such as the recently added wheelchair-accessible swing at Canyon View Park. Registration is required by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, and costs $20-$40. gjpr.org/SantaCauseRun
