Arrests Made in Sprouts Incident

On Saturday, August 23, 2025, at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to the parking lot of Sprouts, located at 1450 Independent Avenue, for reports of vandalism in progress. Multiple callers reported there were individuals breaking out car windows and there might be a gun involved. When officers arrived on scene, they found multiple vehicles had fled the area.

A short time later, officers contacted one of the vehicles at the Sam’s Club parking lot, where they discovered a male gunshot victim. He was transported to the hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department for serious bodily injury.

During this time, a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description that had fled the area was reported to 911 as a possible drunk driver. Officers located the vehicle at the Mesa Mall, located at 2424 Highway 6 and 50, and when the driver failed to stop, a pursuit followed. The vehicle eventually crashed and the occupants were detained. Two subjects were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Through further investigation, it was determined that the individuals inside were not responsible for the shooting.

The driver, Dangelo Saenz, age 18, was arrested and remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility for Felony Menacing, Attempted Vehicular Assault, Felony Vehicular Eluding, and other related charges.

 

On August 24, 2025, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department, Montrose Police Department, and Montrose County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 14000 block of Marine Road located in Montrose, Colorado to contact a suspect.

Arthur Lucas, age 45, was taken into custody without incident and remanded to the Montrose County Detention Facility for Assault in the First Degree and Illegal Discharge of a Firearm.
