The City of Grand Junction and Brikwell, the master planner and one of the selected developers for the Salt Flats project, will host a community meeting to share information on the project. The meeting will take place from 5–7 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Suplizio Field Hospitality Suite, 1307 North Ave., Grand Junction. A presentation will commence at 5:30 p.m., followed by an open house.

The 21-acre Salt Flats property is located at 450 28 Road along the 28 Road corridor, close to major employers, services, and amenities. The City has played a critical role in removing barriers to housing development by acquiring the property in January 2025 for $3.2 million. This was made possible through a $2.2 million Proposition 123 Land Banking Grant from the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA), and a $ 1 million City Match. The city also pursued and was awarded a $2 million More Housing Now grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, matched with $800,000 in City funds to be used to construct essential infrastructure including new roadway connections, utilities, and stormwater facilities ensuring a portion of the overall project will be ready for vertical development.

In Spring 2025, through a competitive process, the City selected four development teams including Brikwell (Master Planner and housing developer of two parcels), Volunteers of America (with MGL Partners and the Grand Junction Housing Authority), Vertikal, and Rural Homes. Together, these developers will deliver a mix of affordable rental housing, affordable homeownership, and attainable workforce housing. At full development, the project will provide more than 324 new housing units.

The Salt Flats project will provide critical opportunities for affordable and attainable housing within the city.
