The off-leash dog park at Las Colonias will open on Monday, May 27, 2024, for the season.
In addition to the dog park at Las Colonias, the city provides another off-leash dog park for community members at Canyon View on the north side of Grand Junction. This dog park and the one at Las Colonias are the only areas in parks where furry friends are allowed to be off-leash. Mesa County Animal Control Services enforces the leash law within city limits including issuing citations to owners with pets who are off-leash outside of those designated off-leash dog parks at Las Colonias or Canyon View. Each year multi-fenced areas in city dog parks undergo a rotation of opening and closing to help keep the grass and soil healthy for the following year. This is done because of the difficulty of the grass recovering from the impacts of use, especially when it goes dormant in the fall, winter, and spring.
