On 5/20/24, at approximately 11:10 a.m., 911 dispatchers with the Grand Junction Regional Communications Center received a call from a male stating he had shot his wife and was going to shoot himself. Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department arrived at the residence, located in the area of Olson Avenue and Cherry Lane, to find a deceased male with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. An adult female was transported to the hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The woman remains in critical condition. A shelter-in-place was issued for Orchard Mesa Middle School for a short period of time out of an abundance of caution and has since been lifted. This is an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the public. The Mesa County Coroner’s Office will be responsible for releasing the identity of the deceased male once appropriate notifications have been made. The Grand Junction Police Department is in the early stages of this investigation and there is no further information available.
