The City of Grand Junction is launching a Turf Conversion Program that seeks to improve resource stewardship for city water customers. An informational class will be presented on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Park Hospitality Suite on the 4th floor of Suplizio Stadium (1307 North Ave.). The new Turf Conversion Program will launch February 1 and applications are open until December 2024.
To qualify for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a City of Grand Junction Water customer. Check residential address
- Have living turf areas between 500-2000 square feet (Residential) or 500 - 3000 (Commercial or Non-Residential)
Rebates of $1 per square foot for turf replacement are available for approved applicants who submit all the required information.
In conjunction with the Turf Conversion Program, the city is also launching the Water Efficiency Rebate Program. The Water Efficiency Rebate Program includes rebates for water-saving appliances such as toilets, washing machines, smart irrigation controllers, soil moisture sensors, rain sensors, high-efficiency rotor nozzles, and tree drip irrigation kits. Rebates may be combined with other water conservation programs. More information about the program and rebate qualifications can be found on the Water Conservation Programs website.
To help fund the new Turf Conversion Program, the city received a grant from the Colorado Department of Natural Resources that the Utilities Department matched. City Council approved additional funds for the program making a total of $150,000 available for turf rebates.
