Licenses & Permits
Permits Issued by the Community Development Department
- Banner Permits: Required for temporary signage, flags, balloons and other special event displays. For more information contact the Community Development Department at 970-244-1430.
- Change of Use Permits: For more information contact the Community Development Department at 970-244-1430.
- Driveway Permits: Required for widening of an existing driveway or construction of a new driveway.
- Fence Permits: Required before putting up a new fence or replacing an existing fence. For more information contact the Community Development Department at 970-244-1430.
- Home Occupation Permits: Required to run a business out of a residence.
- Planning Clearances for Residential: Required for any new construction, including additions, garages or storage sheds constructed on residential property.
- Planning Clearances for Non-Residential: Planning Clearances for Non-Residential Interior Remodels may be applied for online. For other Non-Residential Planning Clearance information and requirements, please contact the Community Development Department at 970-244-1430.
- Sign Permits/Clearances: Must be applied for and issued to a licensed sign contractor. For more information contact the Community Development Department at 970-244-1430.
- Special Event Permit: Required if event is open to the general public and will take place within normal vehicular or pedestrian traffic on a City public street, property or right-of-way. For more information contact the Community Development Department at 970-244-1491.
- Temporary Use Permits (PDF): Required for short-term uses or special occasions. For more information contact the Community Development Division at 970-244-1430.
Permits & Licenses Issued Through Other City Departments
- Industrial Pre-Treatment Permits: Required for Industrial uses as well as Commercial uses such as restaurants, vehicle service facilities and machine shops. For more information contact the Wastewater Treatment Plant at 970-256-4164.
- Liquor License: A liquor license is required to sell alcohol. For more information contact the City Clerk's Office at 970-244-1509.
- Sales and Use Tax License: A sales tax license is needed to do business in the City of Grand Junction. For more information contact the Sales Tax Division at 970-244-1536.
Permits & Licenses Issued Through Mesa County
- Contractor's License: Apply for a Contractor's License and find required testing information. For more information contact the Mesa County Building Department at 970-244-1631.

- Mesa County Health Department Licenses: Required for schools/day cares; body art/tattoo parlors; restaurants. For more information contact the Mesa County Health Department at 970-245-8900.
