Biography

I moved to our town in 2000, rejoining my family to its Grand Junction roots. My father was born in our town and my grandfather was a local civil engineer who built bridges on the Grand Mesa.

I've dedicated my entire professional life to healthcare nonprofits of Western Colorado. I moved to Grand Junction to complete a doctoral internship with Marillac Health and stayed with the clinic for 6 years--eventually supervising its integrated behavioral health team and leading community-wide healthcare integration initiatives. I then took my family to Frisco, Colorado for 2.5 years where I was the CEO of Summit Community Care Clinic--a safety net clinic similar to Marillac Health. While there, we doubled our medical services, built dental and behavioral health services from the ground up, and tripled our staff. I returned to Grand Junction in 2008 to join the faculty of the St. Mary's Family Medicine Residency. In this role, I train the next generation of family physicians, family therapists, and social workers for service in the primary care clinics of Western Colorado.

I completed a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis in collaborative health care at Brigham Young University in 2001. I also have a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Indiana State University and a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development from Brigham Young University. I recently completed a 5-semester certificate in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University.

My children all attend D51 public schools. I've volunteered in their classrooms weekly for 13 years. I've also served on several school-level and district-level leadership committees. I've served on the boards of directors of several non-profits and community consortia.

I've been married to Ana Reitz since 2001. She is a CMU graduate who is an accountant with Hilltop. She is an immigrant from the Amazon area of Brazil. Together, we're raising 3 children, Gabi, Paolo, and Sofia. We love camping and traveling together. Favorite recreation includes mountain biking, trail running, skiing, and paddle boarding. When at home, we like baking, house projects, creating music, and playing card games.
